Gutters are the most overlooked component on a property - until the first big autumn storm turns a blocked run into a cascading waterfall down the front of your house. At Kingsway Roofing we have spent years clearing, sealing, realigning and replacing guttering across Buckinghamshire, and the pattern is always the same: a small gutter problem ignored in spring becomes a damp wall, a stained render or a rotten fascia by the following winter.
Properties across our region put gutter systems under real strain. The mature lime and chestnut trees lining the avenues of Chesham and Berkhamsted drop leaf litter that packs gutters solid each autumn. The exposed ridges around Wendover and Tring catch driving rain that tests every joint and bracket. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces of Finchley and Barnet often still carry original cast-iron half-round gutters that have corroded from the inside out. Wherever you are in our patch, your gutters are working harder than you think.
The good news is that gutter problems are among the most affordable roofing issues to put right - provided you act before the water has tracked into the brickwork, the soffits or the cavity. A professional clean and a handful of resealed joints cost a fraction of the repointing, replastering and timber replacement that a year of unchecked overflow will eventually demand. We handle the full range: routine cleaning and clearance, leak sealing and joint replacement, sagging realignment, full UPVC and aluminium replacement, downpipe work, gutter lining for awkward or jointed runs, and coordinated fascia and soffit renewal.
Our Guttering Services
Complete guttering services for Buckinghamshire homes
From a single leaking joint to a full replacement gutter and downpipe system, we survey the rainwater installation properly and recommend the right repair or replacement for the property, the exposure and the budget.
Gutter repairs
Find the leak, fix the cause, protect the brickwork
A dripping gutter joint or an overflowing run is usually a symptom of a deeper issue - a failed bracket, a dropped fall, a choked outlet or a perished seal. Our repair team traces the fault along the full run before recommending work, so the repair we make actually solves the problem rather than sending you back for a second visit when the next downpour finds the same weak point.
Leak sealing and joint replacement for UPVC, aluminium and cast-iron gutters.
Sagging realignment, bracket renewal and fall correction to stop ponding and overflow.
Repairs to cracked or split gutter sections, outlets and downpipe connections.
Honest advice when a run has reached the end of its serviceable life and [[replacement|/gutters/gutter-repairs#gutter-replacement]] is better value than another repair.
Gutter replacement
A new rainwater system built to last
When a gutter system is extensively cracked, corroded or repeatedly failing, patching it only delays the inevitable. We replace gutters with modern UPVC or aluminium systems sized correctly for the roof area, with proper falls, secure brackets and durable perimeter detailing that protects the fascia, brickwork and foundations from water damage.
Full strip and inspection of the existing gutter, fascia and soffit boards before installation.
UPVC half-round, deep-flow, ogee and square-line profiles in a range of colours to suit the property.
Aluminium gutters for longer uninterrupted runs, slimmer profiles and powder-coated finishes.
Correct sizing and fall so the system clears heavy downpours without overflow, with written workmanship guarantee.
Gutter cleaning
Preventive clearance before the next storm
On properties surrounded by mature trees - which covers much of the Chiltern fringe around Chesham, Amersham and Berkhamsted - gutters should be cleared annually. A preventive clear costs a fraction of the repointing, replastering and timber replacement that a season of unchecked overflow will eventually demand. We clear leaves, moss, silt and seedlings, flush the run, and check the outlets and downpipes are flowing freely before we leave.
Full clearance of leaves, moss, silt and debris from gutter runs and outlets.
Downpipe flushing to clear blockages and confirm water is reaching the drain or soakaway.
Fascia and soffit inspection included on every clearance job - we report any soft spots or rot.
Honest advice on clearance frequency based on the tree cover and exposure around your property.
Gutter lining
Re-waterproofing for runs you cannot easily replace
Some gutter runs - over conservatories, above fragile lead valleys, or on awkward jointed sections - are genuinely difficult to replace without major disruption. Our seamless gutter lining system bonds a waterproof membrane inside the existing run, re-waterproofing the system in situ and saving the cost and disruption of a full strip-out. It is a practical, long-lasting solution for the right roof.
Seamless waterproof membrane bonded inside the existing gutter run.
Ideal for runs over conservatories, lead valleys and hard-to-access jointed sections.
Re-waterproofs the system without removing the gutter - minimal disruption and cost.
Compatible with UPVC, aluminium and cast-iron gutters where the structure is still sound.
Downpipes & soakaways
Carry water safely from the roof to the ground
A gutter system is only as good as the pipes that carry the water away. We repair, replace and reroute downpipes, and we can advise on soakaway capacity and drainage connections where water is pooling at the base of a wall. Correct downpipe sizing and routing protects foundations, prevents water tracking into the cavity, and stops the green staining and algae growth that disfigure brickwork at ground level.
Downpipe repair and replacement in UPVC, aluminium or cast-iron lookalike profiles.
Rerouting and extension of downpipes to improve drainage and protect foundations.
Soakaway capacity advice and coordination with drainage work where water pools at the base of walls.
Leaf guard and filter installation at outlets to reduce future blockages.
Cast iron & lookalike systems
Period character with modern performance
On Victorian and Edwardian terraces across Buckinghamshire and the older parts of the region, original cast-iron ogee gutters are often worth preserving for both character and longevity. We de-scale, repair and repaint cast iron where the material is still sound. Where replacement is necessary, we install aluminium and UPVC cast-iron lookalike systems that replicate the period profile without the maintenance burden of raw iron.
Cast-iron repair: de-scaling, fracture repair, re-bedding joints and repainting.
Aluminium and UPVC cast-iron lookalike gutters that match period ogee and half-round profiles.
Powder-coated finishes that retain their colour without the rusting and repainting cycle of raw iron.
Sensitive specification for listed buildings, conservation areas and period façades.
Fascias & soffits
Gutter and roofline work done together
A leaking gutter rots the timber it sits on. On every gutter job we inspect the [[fascia and soffit|/gutters/fascias-and-soffits]] boards behind the guttering for soft spots and rot, so a gutter repair or replacement does not leave an undiagnosed timber problem festering above your head. Where the boards need attention, we replace them with rot-free UPVC roofline boards at the same time - one visit, one team, one guarantee.
Fascia and soffit inspection included as standard on every gutter repair and replacement.
UPVC roofline board replacement where timber is rotten, soft or badly weathered.
Coordinated gutter, fascia and soffis replacement for a clean, weatherproof roofline.
No new gutter fitted over rotten boards - we tell you honestly what needs replacing before we start.

Warning Signs You Should Not Ignore
As specialist roofing contractors covering Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and North London, these are the issues we see most often - and what they typically mean for your property.
Water cascading over the gutter edge in heavy rain
This is the clearest sign of a blockage or an undersized gutter. The run cannot clear the volume of water coming off the roof, so it spills over the front edge - straight down the fascia, the render and the brickwork. If you see it happening from the ground during a downpour, the gutter is either choked with debris or the fall has dropped and water is ponding behind the blockage.
Green or black staining on the render below the gutters
Algae and dirt streaks beneath a gutter line mean it has been overflowing for some time. The staining is not just cosmetic - the persistent wet penetrates the render, freezes in winter and blows the surface off the wall. On painted render around Chesham and Amersham we see this regularly on properties where the gutters have been neglected for two or three seasons.
Sagging or bowing gutter runs
Gutters should run in a clean straight line with a gentle fall towards the outlet. A bow or sag means the brackets have failed, the fascia behind has softened, or the gutter is carrying a weight of water and debris it was never designed for. A sagging run ponded with stagnant water is also a mosquito and moss trap that accelerates the decay of everything around it.
Damp patches on internal walls at ceiling height
A leaking gutter joint or a cracked downpipe can drive water back into the wall cavity, which shows up internally as a damp patch at the top of an upstairs wall. Homeowners in Hertfordshire and North London often mistake this for a roof leak - but if the staining is below the eaves line and on the gable or party wall, the gutter is the usual culprit.
Visible cracks, splits or gaps at the joints
UPVC gutters become brittle after years of UV exposure, and aluminium systems corrode at the joints. If you can see daylight through a joint, or a dark stain running down the underside of the gutter, water is escaping on every rainfall. Joint failures are cheap to fix individually but expensive to ignore, because the leaking water rots the fascia board the gutter is fixed to.
It has been more than two years since the gutters were cleared
On properties surrounded by trees - and that covers most of the Chiltern fringe in Buckinghamshire - gutters should be cleared annually. If you cannot remember the last time it was done, moss, leaf litter and silt will be building up quietly. A preventive clear costs very little; a season of overflow damage costs a great deal more.
Why Kingsway
Why Homeowners Across Bucks, Herts & North London Choose Us
We fix the cause, not just the symptom
A running joint is often a symptom of a failed bracket, a dropped fall or a choked outlet. We trace the gutter system end to end so the repair we make actually solves the problem, rather than sending you back for a second visit when the next downpour finds the same weak point.
Fascia and soffit inspected on every gutter job
A leaking gutter rots the timber it sits on. On every gutter call-out we check the fascia and soffit boards behind the guttering for soft spots and rot, so a gutter repair does not leave an undiagnosed timber problem festering above your head.
Checkatrade-vetted, locally recommended
Our reputation across Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire has been built one street at a time. We are Checkatrade-vetted and 5-star rated on both Checkatrade and TrustATrader, and a large share of our gutter work comes from neighbours on the same road who have seen the job we did for the house next door.
Fast response before the next storm
A failed gutter in October is urgent - the next Atlantic low is never far away. We prioritise gutter call-outs through the autumn and winter so a small repair is completed before it becomes a flooded patio, a soaked render or a damaged ceiling.
UPVC and aluminium - and we still handle cast iron
From modern UPVC half-round on a new build in Borehamwood to original cast-iron ogee on a period property in Barnet, we work on every gutter material in our area. Where a period property demands it, we repair and repaint cast iron rather than pushing an anachronistic plastic replacement.
Gutter lining for runs you cannot easily replace
Some gutter runs - over conservatories, above fragile lead valleys, or on awkward jointed sections - are genuinely difficult to replace. Our seamless gutter lining system re-waterproofs an existing run in situ, saving the cost and disruption of a full strip-out.
